Hyaluronic acid products for cosmetic applications
range from facial creams, serum to gel tablets, pills and injections. The main
function of hyaluronic acid in the body is tissue hydration and lubrication to
make the skin moist, vibrant and supple. Higher concentrations of hyaluronic
acid help skin cells retain their moisture, keeping eyes bright and skin vibrant
and smooth.
A Japanese pharmaceutical company was the first to develop the hyaluronic acid
pills. That company’s rigorous testing showed that more than 50% of test
subjects experienced better eyesight, smoother skin and decreased fatigue after
taking hyaluronic acid oral supplements. No known side effects have resulted
from taking the HA pills.
The benefits of hyaluronic acid have resulted in its increased use in cosmetics
among both men and women. According to the American Society for Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery, in 2004 the total number of Hyaluronic acid facial injections
procedures in the U.S. increased nearly 100 times from the previous year.
Like Botox and collagen, Hyaluronic acid studies show a low frequency of
allergic reaction. Moreover, the effects of hyaluronic acid products on the skin
tend to last up to six to nine months longer than its competition.
Restylane is the first non-animal stabilized Hyaluronic acid filler for the
treatment of facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane uses a dual mechanism of
action to correct the wrinkles and folds. Upon being injected beneath the skin's
surface, the gel adds natural volume and lift to smooth wrinkles and folds.
Restylane is the only FDA approved filler with clinical data supporting its
efficacy for as long as six months. Studies so far have shown that Restylane is
the most effective and safest hyaluronic acid injections on the market.

Two products in Estée Lauder’s
“Perfectionist” skincare line contain the high-powered humectant. The
company’s tests have shown that skincare products containing
Hyaluronic Acid can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles by up
to 50%.
Hyaluronic is usually extracted from the combs of roosters, shark
skin, or microorganisms for use in skin care products. The purest form
is extracted from the combs of rooster but this is a very expensive
ingredient because of the process of extraction.
You can reduce wrinkles, acne scars and injury scars when hyaluronic
acid is injected directly into the skin. The area will be red and
swollen for about 1 week after treatment. Sometimes additional
treatments are necessary. Approximately 2 to 3 treatments a year will
be necessary to maintain the results that you desire. If hyaluronic
acid is taken orally, it can take up to 4 months to see results.
Facial lines and features that can be
corrected using hyaluronic acid implantation include
• Frown lines that run between the eyebrows
• Smoker's lines which are vertical lines on the mouth
• Marionette lines at the corner of the mouth
• Worry lines that run across the forehead
• Crow's feet at the corner of the eyes
• Deep smile lines that run from side of the nose to corners of the
mouth
• Cheek depressions
• Redefining lip border
• Acne scars
• Some facial scars |
