What are sources of Hyaluronic acid ?
Read about HAFormulaOnline presented in simple easy to understand language

Hyaluronic acid is found in abundance in the human body and animals and certain types of food.
Human Source
Hyaluronic acid is produced naturally in the body. It is found in the synovial joint fluid, the vitreous humor of the eye, the cartilage, blood vessels, extracellular matrix, skin and the umbilical cord.

Cartilage

High concentrations of HA are found in human cartilage providing the body with strength and flexibility. Hyaluronic acid is a key component of synovial fluid which transports nutrients into cartilage throughout the body.

Extra-cellular Matrix

Hyaluronic acid also contributes to the flow of nutrients and metabolic waste in the extracellular matrix (ECM). The ECM is composed of material produced by the cells and excreted to the extracellular space with the tissues. All nutrients and metabolic waste are transported through the ECM. Hyaluronic acid locks moisture into the ECM and provides support to the ECM's structure.

Skin

Hyaluronic acid is found in abundance in the skin and helps to keep it moist and supple. Hyaluronic acid is present in both the dermis and the epidermis.

Food Sources
There is no conclusive or definitive research on the presence of high levels of Hyaluronic acid in food sources. However, there are possibilities that the presence of nutrients in certain root vegetables could boost HA levels.

The following starchy root vegetables: Satsumaimo, a type of sweet potato; Satoimo, a sticky white potato; Konyaku, a gelatinous root vegetable concoction; and Imoji, a potato root are believed to contain high amounts of hyaluronic acid. These vegetables help the cells of the body thrive and retain moisture. They also keep joints lubricated, protect the retina of the eye and keep the skin smooth and elastic by promoting collagen. These vegetables are grown in the hilly terrains of a village in Japan where it has been found that the people enjoy youthful-looking skin and longevity. But there has been no scientific research published about the veracity of these facts.

Another source of hyaluronic acid is to eat animal parts known to contain a lot of hyaluronic acid. For example, a broth made from fish bones is known to contain high amounts of hyaluronic acid.

Non-Human Sources
There are a number of HA supplements available in the forms of pills and creams in the market today. Rooster combs provide the purest form of Hyaluronic acid available for use in supplements and other HA products. Also, many Hyaluronic acid products on the market contain the acid derived from an extracellular protein produced by bacteria. Recent research into the purification of Hyaluronic acid (HA) from the vitreous humor of fish has shown great promise. This method is highly efficient and easier than derivation from rooster combs and other traditional sources of HA.
